Dandelions are the 'weed' with amazing health benefits for not only us but pets too!
Growing up on farms, my greatest memory was picking dandelions. The multi-use weed had us spending hours making perfumes, teas, and balms. Little did we know back then that they were a little yellow powerhouse for health!
Dandelions are the first port of call for bees. These yellow beauties are the first feed source for bees coming out of the winter period. Now if I have learned anything in my years on Earth it is that bees are very clever when it comes to picking the perfect pollen. Follow the bees and you can't go far wrong. By using dandelions in abundance we are not only reducing vet bills, aiding health, and boosting immunity we are helping the bees too!
Dandelions have been used for centuries in the health industry, particularly in Europe and Asia. Most holistic vets and healers will swear by the benefits of dandelions too!
Dandelions have many health benefits and can be used in a variety of ways. Dandelions can help balance out the digestive tract and help with Cushing's disease, improve the liver and recover the gallbladder, build strong bones and teeth, and boosts the immune system, to just name a few of its benefits.
The whole of the dandelion can be used but avoid using the stem of the dandelion as this would be used as a laxative.
The blooms of the dandelion, including the seed puffs can be used to boost the immune system. They contain high levels of antioxidants and polyphenols.
The leaves of the dandelion are the nutrient-dense part of the plant. The leaves are great for drying and crumbling small amounts into your dog's food.
Roots are the best natural liver tonic! That help improves liver function. The root also has anti-inflammatory properties for muscle recovery and decreases joint aches and pains.
How do Dandelions boost your dog's immune system?
Dandelions boost your dog's immune system with vitamin A and several complex B vitamins that are in the dandelion. With these crucial vitamins, your dog will be more energetic and it will assist them in warding off any infections and diseases.
Improved digestion; INULIN is present in dandelions. Inulin is a probiotic that can enhance your dog's gut health.
Natural diuretic; dandelions can be used to rid excess water from your dog's body and improve proper urination, which is vital for your dog's health.
Keeping bones and teeth strong; The minerals potassium and manganese present in dandelions work with the calcium already present in your dog's body to increase strength in bones and teeth.
Dandelions are very obviously not just the weed we are led to believe they are. They are the most beneficial natural plant that grows in abundance. There are a few aspects you need to be careful of when picking dandelions. Make sure that you pick them in areas that would not have had pesticides put on them, make sure they are clean and also if your dog is on any veterinary medication you will need to double-check that you can add n dandelions to their diet.
